The Brooklyn Nets is a professional basketball team member compete in the NBA’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division based in Brooklyn, New York. Nets play their hame game in the Barclays Center at Brooklyn, New York since the summer of 2012.

As a charter franchise, the Nets founded in 1967 as the New Jersey Americans in Teaneck but after the first season In 1968, they relocated to Long Island, New York and changed its name to New York Nets. In 1974 and 1976, led by Julius Erving, they won two ABA champions and merged with NBA. The team funded their $4.8 million encroachment fee to New York Kicks by selling Erving’s contract causing their deterioration in performance (1976-77), making them relocate back to New Jersey from 1977 to 2012 as New Jersey Nets. After playing 35 seasons, the team moved from New Jersey to Brooklyn at Barclays Center starting with the 2012-13 NBA season, and changed with local area name to Brooklyn Nets.

Rivalries

The Boston Celtics started trash-talking against the Nets in the Eastern Conference Finals in 2002, Celtics fans berated Jason Kidd and his wife which stopped after the abuse charge. However, the rivalry took weak when Celtics Garnett and Paul Pierce exchanged in the Nets for Wallace, Humphries. On the other hand, the Knicks–Nets rivalry is primarily geographical and historical and the Nets–Raptors rivalry began in 2004 after the trade of Vince Carter from Raptors to Nets and won in the first-round series.

The Nets mascot 1997 was Sly the Silver Fox. After moving to Brooklyn, they came up with BrooklyKnight on November 3, 2012.
